I don’t even know where to begin. What an incredible day with so many wonderful, inspiring people at today’s Free to Breathe Yoga Challenge. To see this community come together and raise money for such a great cause was simply amazing. Free to Breathe’s mission is to ensure surviving lung cancer is the expectation, not the exception. Their vision is to double lung cancer survival by 2022 and focus on:
- Funding research with the greatest potential to save lives.
- Increasing the number of lung cancer patients participating in clinical trials.
- Building and empowering the lung cancer community
I dedicated the time on my mat today to those who are fighting this horrible disease today and to those who have lost the battle. Today I honored a very special person in her fight against lung cancer.
I had the opportunity to practice with some of the best yoga instructors in Charm City.
- Jess Crowley from YogaWorks
- Dani Yarusso and Nila Mechali Berger from M.Power Yoga
- Ciara Desmond from CorePowerYoga
- LA Finfinger founder of Free Baltimore Yoga
Aside from being able to participate in close to 5 hours of yoga today, I also had the chance to learn about the chakras, hang out with Gundalow Juice, buy more malas (because let’s be honest you can never have too many), and support other local businesses.
First stop…Gundalow Juice (recently voted Baltimore’s Best Juice)
Next…Spirit + Stone in search of another mala bracelet. It was a tough decision, but I ended up buying this one.
I am also pretty excited about my new Viking Balm from Wisdom Wellness. It is a topical muscle balm developed to alleviate the discomfort from sore, tight and fatigued muscles which is exactly what I need during marathon and triathlon training. They also have a Viking Soak that I want to try.
And how could I forget Jason from CharmCityPT. He led guided meditation sessions throughout the day.
Now onto the food.
I met Rachel from Rachel’s Nourishing Kitchen. She was giving out samples of Everbars and her Basic Trail Mix.
One of my favorite yoga instructors, Dani Yarusso, was having a nutrition workshop that involved balancing the chakras. I tried all the recipes, but if I had to pick a favorite it would have to be the Sweet Potato Soup (which is going to be perfect for Fall). Be sure to check back on the blog because I’ll be incorporating some of these in my weekly food prep.
I want to personally thank all of you who helped me raise money to be able to participate in today’s event. Every dollar you donated helps make a difference for someone affected by lung cancer. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
And remember…when you roll out of bed tomorrow, give yourself a hug and say “love me some me.”
As you go through your day and your week, remember to kiss your life, love your life. No one is you and that is your power.
