Hello and welcome to my blog. My name is Emily and I am a 30 year old Florida transplant who’s addicted to all things fitness. I’m a foodie, runner, triathlete and I’d like to consider myself a yogi. Any free time I have is spent at the gym, with friends, or in the kitchen experimenting with recipes.
I grew up on a dairy farm just outside Gettysburg, Pennsylvania with my parents and two older sisters. I landed in Charm City in 2010 after graduating with a B.S. in Marketing from Penn State University. I am incredibly grateful for my family and for the values that they have instilled in me to get me to where I am today.
So where exactly does the whole fitness and being a healthy nut come in? I’ve been active in sports my entire life and sitting still is just not in my vocabulary. Growing up I played field hockey, basketball, ran track and also participated in summer softball. Although I decided to not play sports while in college I did stay active, but took a slightly different direction. I became very active taking group exercise classes, lifting weights and running longer distances which continued when I moved to Baltimore. This was only the beginning of what soon spiraled into a passion for fitness.
It wasn’t until I signed up to run my first half marathon in 2011 at the Baltimore Running Festival that running became such a huge part of my life. Since crossing that finish line, these legs have connected me with so many amazing people who have become such an inspiration to me. They also introduced me to the movement called November Project, helped me push disabled athletes across many finish lines with Athletes Serving Athletes, taught me that anything is possible, and most importantly helped me experience the amazing and learn.
Over the past several years I’ve had the chance to expand my knowledge when it comes to fitness and become Les Mills RPM, TRX, and SoulBody Barre certified. I’ve also had the opportunity to represent brands such as Gundalow Juice and Fabletics. I currently am an ambassador for Honey Stinger, Love the Pain and Nuun.
The Healthy Nut is a way for me to share my love of fitness, food and my journey in life with each of you.
